What were your expectations of college life before UC Merced?
I feared that I would finally be accepted to college and end up being left behind and have to drop out because I couldn’t keep up with the course loads.
How did your experience here correspond to that expectation?
I was welcomed by my roommates with open arms, I quickly found a job in one of the best offices on campus, I received tons of assistance from my professors when I needed help with an assignment, and I was offered numerous resources to help me maintain good academic standing. I never once felt like I didn’t belong, nor did I ever feel like I was falling behind.
What are your plans for after graduation?
I plan to go back to Fresno and do all that I can to be a successful woman. I am still contemplating graduate school, but regardless of whether I do or not, I plan to thrust myself into the occupational realm with full force. I currently have aspirations to go into the field of culinary arts and hopefully open a small business of my own. However, this dream is on the back burner until I establish a firm foundation for myself which will likely consist of a counseling position at a local elementary/high school in my community.
How did your experience at UC Merced prepare you for your future endeavors?
UC Merced has offered its students so many different opportunities to be “INDIVIDUAL,” bringing in tons of diversity, talent and knowledge, that it was effortless to just be ME and find myself in the process. I am truly grateful for the time that I have spent here and I can honestly say that I am PROUD to be a pioneer UC Merced graduate!
What is your best UC Merced memory?
My freshman year was the greatest as I found true friendship in my roommates, an awesome job at the Career Services Center, and met tons of people who have aided in my continuing success as a student.
What is the one thing you think all freshmen should know to make the most of their academic career here?
Make the most of your time here. We have some of the best networks and opportunities to make a change in the world at our fingertips and you should jump at the chance to be apart of it. You should open yourself to new adventures and journeys as it will only help you to evolve into a well-rounded person in the long run.
