What were your expectations of college life before UC Merced?
I honestly expected not to be embraced by my fellow students because of my age and for being a transfer student from a junior college.
How did your experience here correspond to that expectation?
It was actually the opposite. I did not feel shunned. My experience here has been wonderful. I met many, many students and professors from different areas of our state and nation.
What are your plans for after graduation?
To attend California State University, Stanislaus’ criminal justice graduate program.
How did your experience at UC Merced prepare you for your future endeavors?
Having the opportunity to do undergraduate research with professors has helped me look more intently at how important research is to our future.
What is your best UC Merced memory?
On my first day, I was trying to find my class and a young student came up to me and said, “Excuse me, professor, do you know where the Classroom and Office Building is?” I had to explain that I was a student trying to find my own classroom.
What is the one thing you think all freshmen should know to make the most of their academic career here?
Utilize all resources early on and get to know your professors. They are a great bunch of hard-working men and women who are able to give you advice.
