What were your expectations of college life before UC Merced?
I didn’t have any specific expectations though a few vaguely involved partying and going through my major’s requirements.
How did your experience here correspond to that expectation?
Because of UC Merced’s newness and unique location, I completely engaged with the community, the building of the school and myself. Before I came to college, I was disconnected from my own desires. UC Merced helped me engage myself.
What are your plans for after graduation?
I want attend the University of Hong Kong.
How did your experience at UC Merced prepare you for your future endeavors?
UC Merced allowed me to explore who I am, find my desires and channel them in a focused manner.
What is your best UC Merced memory?
When Charles Ogletree spoke at our Commencement in 2005.
What is the one thing you think all freshmen should know to make the most of their academic career here?
UC Merced faculty and administrators are among the most approachable, accessible people in the entire UC system. UC Merced students can perform independent research, join university committees and design new curriculum. Because UC Merced is in its relative infancy, opportunities for student leadership and academic curricular development are abundant. For the inspired student, the chance to effect change on generations of future students is worth more than the money you pay for tuition.
