UC Merced Virtual Commencement

Livestream will be accessible on the Commencement Webpage

What is Virtual Commencement?

  • Our Virtual Commencement will be a brief program, congratulating and celebrating our Graduates. The Virtual Commencement will include components that are both part of our traditional Commencement Ceremony and new specifically just for this program. There will be school-centric ceremonies that allow the opportunity for Graduates to hear their names announced.

Do I need to register for Virtual Commencement?

  • There is no registration needed for Virtual Commencement.

How can I watch the Virtual Commencement?

  • The broadcast will be available to watch on our Commencement webpage and streamed on social media. You are welcome to share the link with your family and friends and will be accessible to watch from any device with internet access.

I can’t watch the ceremony live, can I watch it later?

  • If you are unable to watch the ceremony live, the full video will be accessible to watch after the fact.

Why are we doing a Virtual Commencement?

  • As our postponed ceremony date cannot be decided at this time, the University wanted to provide an opportunity for those who may not be able to return to campus to participate and experience Commencement.

With a Virtual Commencement taking place, am I still able to participate in the postponed, inperson ceremony?

  • Once we are approved to host in-person ceremonies again, graduates will be contacted with opportunities and more information.

Do I need to wear regalia for Virtual Commencement?

  • No, regalia is not required.

Can I still order regalia and Commencement related items for photos and other graduation keepsakes?

  • If you would like to order regalia or other Commencement related items, links from our preferred vendors will be added to our website. Graduates will recieve an email once these links are available.

What are the Journey Project photo submissions for?

  • Memories of the Class of 2020 submitted by graduates, family members or friends will be used to highlight and celebrate our Graduates. Some of these submission may be used as part of the Virtual Commencement ceremony and others may be shared on our social media platforms.

What was my Graduation Fee for and can I get a refund?

  • The Graduation Fee is directly related to your physical diploma and is coordinated through the Office of the Registrar. Per their webpage, the mandatory $30.00 Graduation Application fee supports the purchase of your diploma and diploma mailing.
